Loggerhead Sea Turtle gps

A 70kg Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Caretta caretta) equipped with a radio transmitter GPS has been released in Fuerteventura.

It is the first time that is carried out an operation of this kind, which will allow in detail to know the movements the animal in the next months, in order to develop the Project of Reintroduction of the Loggerhead Sea Turtle in Fuerteventura.

The radio transmitter GPS (Global Position System) does not have more than a half year of autonomy, but it has the ability to send information through satellite every 11 days. The follow of the animal will be carried out from the Observatory of Granadilla, whose team will make a virtual map of all the turtle’s movements.
