Poris de Abona

Dive from the shore – easy level
Poris de Abona is a small village on the East shore of the island, half way between the south airport and the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The water entry from the shore is done with stairs which are located on the pier. Pay attention to the fishermen who teem on this site…

The navigation is quite easy, we keep the wall on the left hand side to find more depth. Here, the brown seaweeds are queens; the Diadema sea urchin is not present, at least within the first metres depth.
The bottom is made of small rocks and sand where live octopuses and cuttlefish.

At about 16m depth, we can fin at the top of a rock, a small statue of the Virgin Mary, left here years ago.

We can go on with the dive by following the wall or making a tour above the sand at greater depth to find sting rays or angel sharks. There, a huge field of garden eels awaits you.
This day, it is a comb star that we found on our way...

To go back to the pier, we simply need to turn back with the rocks on the right hand side. Poris de Abona is an easy dive. However, be careful with the current which can be strong sometimes.
